Glossary of specific HR terms

Candidate / Jobseeker
a person which is applying for a vacant position; a job seeker can be unemployed and looking for a job or he / she is employed but is looking for a career change.
Career
profession or occupation, for which one person is trained for; the progress of your working & professional life; it is referred to the series of jobs or position that one person had during its working life.
Career management
is the process of planning the next steps in one’s career, taking control over one’s career development. Career management requires assessing your present and future career opportunities, and choosing carefully the right ones, in order to achieve your career goals.
Employee
is a person who is employed part-time or full-time in a company
Employer / Recruiter
A person or entity employing one or more employees.
Executive search
is the process of recruiting candidates to fill open executive positions. The recruiter is using various methods to seek candidates for a particular job. In most of the cases individuals are not actively seeking a new job. Job interview
is a method of evaluating candidates which have been selected for a certain position. A common initial interview form is the phone interview, a job interview conducted over the telephone, which is very cost effective. The main purpose of the job interview is to assess from both sides the compatibility between the candidate and the corporate culture and demands of the job on offer.
Job search or Job hunt
is the process of looking for a job, due to many reasons such as current unemployment, change of career etc. Job seekers usually use following methods of job hunting: look after a job using job servers, recruiting agencies, networking, newspaper advertising and references.
Leadership
is influencing a group of people in order to achieve predefined goals; promoting new directions. Leadership is about relationships between leaders and followers.
Leader
a leader is a person that people willingly choose to follow; a leader can be a manager, but a manger isn’t always a leader. True leaders have a vision, a passion and they know how to communicate it to people in order to inspire and incite them while creating trust.
Outplacement
The process of placing employees in other positions or training once they have been separated from a job.
Recruitment
Recruitment is the process of finding the right people for the right position which includes researching, testing, evaluating and selecting potential candidates for a vacant position in a organization. The recruitment process can be undertaken by HR representatives of the company or most likely the company that recruits will use a recruitment agencies who will present to the company candidates which are right for the position.
Recruiting agency / Personalni agentura
A recruiting agency works as an intermediary between the candidates (jobseeker) and the client (employer). More about recruiting agencies and benefits of cooperation.
Contingency Recruiter
the company agrees to pay a contingency fee when a recommended candidate accepts a job with the client company, which usually has some form of guarantee, should the candidate fail to perform and is terminated within a set period of time.
Retained Recruiter
the company pays in advance in order to reserve the recruiting agency’s time and can benefit of its services anytime during the retainer contract. The retainer fee is not related to the number of placed candidates.
Temping / Temporary work
temping means job-hopping or it involves leasing temps (temporary employees) on contract to client employers to do temporal work. Its contingent work and sort of like being for rent
Temp or temporary worker
is an employee of a staffing agency and in a client business he / she is not part of the permanent or full-time workforce thus part-time worker.
Temp / Temporary worker
is a person who is brought in to fill a role or position within a workplace for a short period of time.
Unemployment
is the situation in which a person is without a job, and is in the process of looking for a job. A person is unemployed when he is not currently employed
